Here’s what you’ll need for a successful repair job:

How to fix a hole in your down jacket
No time to waste—if you’re out hiking, don’t wait until you reach camp to patch up that tear. Grit and dirt can sneak in and make repairs trickier later. Follow these three steps for a foolproof fix:

Clean the area: Start by swabbing the hole or tear with an alcohol wipe. This clears away dust, dirt, and grit, giving your patch the best chance to stick. Clean a slightly larger area than the size of your patch and snip any loose threads with scissors.

Cut your patch to size: Take your down jacket repair tape or patches and trim them to size. Round the edges while you’re at it—this helps the patch stay secure for longer.

Stick it on: Carefully apply the patch or tape to the hole, smoothing out any air bubbles. Firm, even pressure is your best friend here.
Voilà—you’re done!
