Kathmandu and We Are Explorers have teamed up to create 11 unique wilderness escapes across Australia and New Zealand.

The Hike Club series works with local experts in adventure photography, hiking, navigation and kayaking. These one to two days events are designed to introduce skills and experiences to those both new to the outdoor pursuits, as well as current adventurers.

The first five people to register for their chosen adventure will also receive a free pair of any Oboz shoes from the Kathmandu range (subject to availability). They can only be collected at your event, so make sure your dates are free!

Introductory Navigation Hike, Brisbane

Introductory navigation hike

This full day introductory navigation walk gives participants the opportunity to discover the basics of hiking on Queensland’s most impressive peak.

Event Details

Mt Barney National Park is only 90 minutes from Brisbane and is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage property.

You'll explore the stunning area in a small group setting and discover how to read maps and navigate in the bush. Climb Paddies Peak and immerse yourself in the surrounding flora and fauna and take in the impressive views.

Date: 3rd March 2019.
Cost: $80 p/p.

If you’re a keen photographer and want to learn how to capture your outdoor adventures – this is for you. Learn tips and tricks from Adventure Photographer Olivia Page.

About the trip

This one-day event will take place in the You Yangs Regional Park, Melbourne. You Yangs Regional Park is famous for its wildlife, rock-climbing and mountain biking trails.

Olivia will take you on a trail and introduce you to outdoor photography including gear, pre and post prep, editing, and packing for trips.

About your guides:

Olivia’s photography and words can be found in adventure magazines, geographical publications and journals in Australia and internationally. She also has over 200 hours of helicopter aerial photography experience — shooting in remote, regional and metropolitan areas.

The trip will also include experienced guides to ensure your safety and fun, while giving you tips on outdoor navigation.

Requirements: Participants should have basic understanding of how to use their cameras in Manual Mode and ideally understand ISO, Aperture, White Balance, Basic Flash, Shutter Speed & Have a Tripod. Lenses (Anything 24-70mm works).

Wilderness Essentials & Navigation Weekend, Melbourne

Want to learn how to survive in the wilderness? This adventure weekend takes you on an overnight hike in the stunning Alpine region in Victoria.

About the trip:

The secluded route will include diverse wildlife, forests and the beautiful Howqua River. On the way, you’ll learn about the wilderness and pick up some navigation essentials. Don’t worry — this trip is still all about getting outdoors, camping under the stars. and having fun.

Your guides have years of experience navigating in the wilderness of Australia and other remote parts of the world.

Event Details:

Date: 30-31st March 2019. As the area is 3.5 hours away from Melbourne, we highly advise arriving to camp on Friday night to get an extra evening outdoors and be ready to go on Saturday.

Adventure Photography Weekend, Sydney

This overnight camping trip will explore the mountainous region outside of Sydney – The Blue Mountains – with practical lessons on Adventure Photography.

About the trip:

In a small group, you’ll learn the basics of adventure photography from a professional. Photographer and Explorer Jake Anderson has grown up in the Blue Mountains, with his images appearing in publications such as The Australian Geographic, The Australian and Australian Photography Magazine.
