what is different AYSEN from BEALEY please? AYSEN is more expensive, must be something very different!

The Aysen is part of our Technical hiking Range. So it has more features that are handy when hiking, for example the fact that this jacket has Pit Zips is a huge advantage when Hiking for a long period of time. The Aysen also has it's pockets positioned so that you can still access them while carrying your Hiking Pack, another great feature when out on the tracks. While both jackets are made from Gore-Tex, so they both have the highest waterproof rating that we have which is 28,000m/m, the Bealey is a more basic Jacket in terms of features eg pockets etc. If you are wanting this jacket for urban everyday use to keep you dry as a bone then I would recommend the Bealey. If you are wanting a jacket to take on single or multi day hikes then I would recommend the Aysen. I hope this helps with your choice!

Does the hood pack away or is it always there

Rated 2 out of 5 by GrahameR from Disappointing! Have had other 'breathable-waterproof' jackets (about $300 full price). None have been adequate. Moved up to Goretex thinking that a (full price) $600 jacket should be far better. First use - in steady rain with some activity - and my shirt was soon wet. Some of that was probably sweat but I think the 'guaranteed to keep you dry' is just plain wrong. While I can understand that the breathability is dependent on external v internal humidity I do expect a $600 jacket to be waterproof. I'm thinking of returning this to get something much cheaper (and equally limited). From looking at forums it seems many hikers think Goretex is a bit of a con - unless the circumstances (activity, rain duration, temp, humidity) are just right. As such I accept the jacket is sufficiently breathable in some circumstances but I am exceptionally disappointed it is not waterproof - esp on the first outing. And of course as the DWR fades then it'll only get wetter. I gave it two stars only because I like the jacket's features, weight and esp the pit vents - which I find critical in reducing the internal humidity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by PK80 from Lightweight roomy Brought 2 weeks ago, 2 days latter heavy rain all day absolutely did the job I hoped ,Dry warm , Best Buy I’ve made with waterproof jackets ever.The sun came out momentarily so opened up the underarm zip vents which cooled me down, very happy with how it performed and felt whilst wearing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Dan23 from Waterproof, windproof & durable Took this on an extended trip to SW Tassie and in rough wether this jacket performed well. Stayed fully dry and kept the wind at bay. Tracks were rough and overgrown and the jacket held up well without any damage ( unlike a different brand rain pants that developed multiple tears and scuffs). Pit vents also a nice feature so you can keep the jacket on between showers without overheating and sweating.
