Salomon X Ultra 2 Mid GTX Men's Hiking Boots is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not durable! No service from salomon! I bought those boots in January. They fit perfectly, were waterproof and very light. But only 3 months later they were not waterproof anymore. In both left and right shoe there are holes at the seam close to the toe joints as a result of bending/ folding during every step. At Kathmandu I was told that hiking boots are not made for walking all day and that it propably is not a case of warranty. As a backpacker i use the boots quite often. However they sent them to salomon for analysis. I just got my boots back with a hand written letter explaining that it is not a case of warranty due to heavy use. Sorry Salomon but 300$ for a three month shoe is way too expensive! Shoes are made for walking and not for shoe recks...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The good and the bad Bought a few months ago and have done a few dry weather walks; lightweight and comfortable especially for my wide feet. The only down side in the dry is that when wearing shorts a more than normal number of small stones seem to get trapped in the shoe. In the wet it's another story, these boots seemed to attract and absorb water and I ended up with really bad blisters. A 5 rating in the dry or a 1 rating in the wet. Makes sure you waterproof them, I've learnt the lesson the hard way so you don't have to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great light weight boots Ive had mine for about 18 months now and love them, they are a light weight boot so great for fast day hikes etc but i wouldnt go on a multi day hike with a big pack on. As for the comments about them not being waterproof i have never had any issues, even alpine hiking in snow and on misserable days. they can feel wet but it is only because the gore tex is near the inner so the rest of the boot will feel damp but your feet will be dry. Also they have the best grip soles ive ever had, only i recommend not to use it in rocky or abrasive areas as it is a soft flexible rubber sole and it will wear quiker. That said they are fantastic on ordinary tracks and snow and mud. Go for it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from lightweight and comfy needed lightweight but supportive shoe (knee and foot issues). Found these to be super comfortable and yet supportive enough. Bumped into another bloke a the a caravan park camp kitchen who noted we had same shoes (mine were still new and clean:-)) He said they were the best shoes he has ever had, and he has been wearing them for the last 3 months whilst travelling around Australia and couldn't be happier with them. The only issue i have is that the laces need to be tied in double knot so they don't loosen...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Supportive boot for mid length tramping I've had the boot for 6 months ad have done multiple day and overnight tramps. Found them to be good in wet weather, managing to keep the mud and water out during rainy day tramps on Pirongia (boggy and lots of mud - Waikato). Did however find that your foot would slide forward a bit on long descends, although only one black toe nail to report to date. Found them to be light and usable without any break in period.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely brilliant! I have had a pair of these for over 3 years and they are almost as comfortable as the day I bought them! I did the Coast to Coast in the UK a couple years ago and they perform brilliantly. I slipped into a few peat bogs and with waterproof pants they didn't leak at all. I used blister patches as a precaution but I did not get a single blister the entire trek! That doesn't happen very often. I have also worn them in snow, deep snow! As long as I kept moving and wore thick socks my toes were fine. I have tried other brands and styles but I keep coming back to these. Yeah they don't have the protection and durability of leather boots but gee they are comfortable, they are light and nimble, waterproof and grippy. I feel very capable in them. They don't feel like the traditional hiking boots, they are far better!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK boots for some, but overprised Bought them for a good "bulk deal" price. Very light and fairly comfortable considering the reasonably thick and decent outer sole. Easy to slide into and quick to take off. And they seemed suitable for (light) hiking to me. Unfortunately noticed very soon while wearing them indoors, that the midfoot area wasn't wide enough, even though I don't have wide feet at all (just a bit of a supinator when standing still), so the outer edge of the sole was poking into my foot which could 've become very uncomfortable during walks and hikes. Also one of the boots made a clicking sound (because of the plastic material used on the side of the shoes) each time I took a step. This becomes quite annoying after a little while. Talking to a very experienced trekker who'd used these boots intensively on a daily basis for months on end I came to know that these boots wouldn't last very long (a max of half a year with very intensive use, and maybe 1,5 years with normal regular use) before they start leaking and the sole starts bottoming out. Apparently they won't protect you from heavy rain if it goes on for 1-2 hours anyway (due to the soft top material), regardless of the Gore-Tex membrane. So all in all a good pair of boots for sporadic light hiking and regular walks, if they fit your feet. But it's not without it's flaws and probably not your best bet for (semi) intensive trekking, especially in rainy conditions, considering the price and their life span. So unfortunately I had to return them and was left with a (only 6 months) voucher that won't buy me another pair of reasonably good boots at Kathmandu; bye bye sweet deal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love These Boots I bought these boots in NZ from Kathmandu a few days before an expedition down to Antarctica. I walked in the them for a few days to wear them in, before I boarded my ship to head south. As all I can say is that they were great - whenever I left the ship I wore these boots and they were just so comfortable. We walked through puddles and mud on various islands on our way down (and back) and of course ice when we were on Antarctica. They were waterproof, never had a problem with cold feet (I had very warm socks on though) and that was back in March, 2016. Since then, I have worn them most days walking my dog and we do about 4 to 5 km each morning and they have continued to be great. The soles are starting to wear down obviously, so I am looking at buying another pair. Would I recommend these boots - absolutely!
