Valentine's Day Ideas

Ditch the chocolate and stuffy dinners and get outside and play this Valentine’s Day! Grab your partner or your friends and make this day anything you want it to be. Here are a few of our favourite Valentine’s Day ideas.

Coupled up? Get outside with your partner this Valentine’s Day! Exercise and fresh air are the two greatest aphrodisiacs in the world, and everyone looks better with roses in their cheeks and wind-tousled hair.

  • Still getting to know each other? Pack a picnic lunch and go for a long hike together. Hiking allows more conversation than a movie date, and it’s less forced than facing each other over a candlelit dinner. Beautiful scenery and the natural rhythm of a long hike will keep that getting-to-know-you banter flowing easily.
  • Want to find out if you’re compatible? Our staff agree there are two true tests for any relationship: setting up a tent together, or paddling a tandem kayak. If you and your partner want to see if this is really a match made in heaven, give camping a try, or hire a tandem kayak and get out for an afternoon paddle.
  • Relationship a little too comfortable? Shake up the status quo by trying something new together. Sign up for a paddleboard, surfing or snowboarding lesson for the cooler months, or give the indoor rock-climbing wall or yoga a try. Not only will it give you something new to talk about, but it’s also likely to put some (always needed) laughter back in the relationship.
  • Ready to propose? While Australia has spectacular backdrops and outdoorsy romantic activities like hot air ballooning or catamaran cruising, consider choosing a favourite local location, like “your” beach, a backyard park, or your local hiking trail. Being able to readily revisit this emotionally special location is a wonderful way to reconnect.

Flying solo? You’re not alone. Thirty-eight percent of people don’t do anything for Valentine’s Day. We still think you should, though: seize any excuse for an adventure and invite your friends out for a sledding party, organise a mountain bike ride, or go hiking with your best friend. Celebrate your mates!

Fun Facts:

  • Americans purchase 58 million pounds of chocolate candy during Valentine’s Day week.
  • The modern day celebration of Valentine’s Day is believed to begin in France and England.
  • Australian men are more romantic than their female counterparts. An interesting statistic figure states that 58% of men splurge on buying greetings card everywhere as opposed to a thin percentage of just 41% women.
  • A study reveals that 90% of people in Australia aged between 18-24 years celebrate Valentine's Day with more zeal then those aged over 50.
