Learn moreTo prolong the life of your down jacket and to keep it in tip-top condition, follow these guidelines for storing and washing.
Hand wash
Soak for up to 60 minutes (in sink or in machine on soak cycle). Use laundry soap. Do not use fabric softener. Lightly squeeze out excess water - do not wring. For best results allow garment to drip dry before tumble drying. Shake gently as wet down is heavy enough to damage fabric. Tumble dry thoroughly on very low heat. Excessive heat can damage down oils and fabric clumping will occur if garment is not dried thoroughly. After removing from dryer, shake to re-loft down and air for several hours before use or storage. If you do not have a tumble dryer, we recommend professional laundering.
Machine wash
Warm gentle machine wash separately. Recommended machine setting is gentle. Use laundry soap. Do not use fabric softener. Rinse thoroughly and spin on low speed. Tumble dry thoroughly on very low heat. Excessive heat can damage down oils. Continue to dry the jacket until you can't feel any clumps of down and the jacket is completely re-lofted. After removing from dryer, shake to re-loft down and air for several hours before use or storage. If you do not have a tumble dryer, we recommend professional laundering.
Storage
Do not store wet. Do not store in stuff sac.
For best results we recommend that you wash your Kathmandu down jacket with Nikwax Loft Downwash and ensure your jacket is thoroughly tumble dried on a cool setting prior to use or storage.
As a leading retailer in Outdoor Apparel and Equipment, Kathmandu is committed to offering superior products to its customers. Two of the ingredients used for our products are duck and goose down. These ingredients are used to create a high quality fill.
Duck and goose down fill offers the most efficient and comfortable insulation, providing an extremely high warmth to-weight ratio. Kathmandu uses only high quality down fill, the performance of which is measured by loft power. Kathmandu has a quality assurance program in place to guarantee that the highest standards and minimum variances occur during manufacturing.
Kathmandu takes the sourcing of goose and duck down very seriously and endeavours to ensure it is obtained through the highest ethical standards. We have confirmation from down suppliers that none of the product supplied to us is obtained by means of “live plucking”. All of the down that is supplied for the manufacture of the Kathmandu down range is a byproduct of the food industry and is harvested from slaughtered birds.
If you do have further questions or concerns regarding the sourcing of the down we use in our products, please contact us through our website.
