As a leading retailer in Outdoor Apparel and Equipment, Kathmandu is committed to offering superior products to its customers. Two of the ingredients used for our products are duck and goose down feathers. These ingredients are used to create a high quality fill.
Duck and goose down fill offers the most efficient and comfortable insulation, providing an extremely high warmth to-weight ratio. Kathmandu uses only high quality down fill, the performance of which is measured by loft power. Kathmandu has a quality assurance program in place to guarantee that the highest standards and minimum variances occur during manufacturing.
Kathmandu takes the sourcing of goose and duck down very seriously and endeavours to ensure it is obtained through the highest ethical standards. We have confirmation from down suppliers that none of the product supplied to us is obtained by means of “live plucking”. All of the down that Kathmandu is supplied comes from animals that have been slaughtered for both their meat and feather bi-products.
Where possible, Kathmandu would prefer to use down which has naturally dropped from the animal and will continue to move towards this practice by working closely with suppliers.
If you do have further questions or concerns regarding the sourcing of the down we use in our products, please contact us through our website contact us section.

Match your bags season rating with the coldest night time temperature you expect to encounter - anticipate the worst when it comes to the weather!
-
Synthetic sleeping bags maintain their warmth when wet, dry quicker and for the same warmth rating, are less expensive.
-
Down sleeping bags are lighter, provide a higher warmth-to-weight ratio, compress into smaller shapes and last longer than synthetic bags.
-
The shape of your bag makes a difference. Rectangular bags allow you to spread out in your bag and have more space for your body to heat up. Mummy bags generate more heat in a quicker period of time and are fantastic in cold climates and at high elevation.
-
Use a self inflating mat. The extra layer will provide more comfort and insulation from the ground.
